The Luckiest Characters In The ‘Harry Potter’ Film Franchise

Who He Is: A Hippogriff who goes from regal Care of Magical Creatures subject to conflict-hardened survivor. 

Why Is He So Lucky? Buckbeak may be the luckiest character in the Harry Potter series because he is the only one saved by time-manipulating wizards. Out of all the characters that could have been saved by the Time-Turner (like Harry’s parents, for starters), he is the only one. Not only does he avoid an execution sentence, he also escapes Hogwarts afterwards without being captured - and ironically - later returns to Hogwarts to live with Hagrid under the pseudonym “Witherwings.”  

Luckiest Moment: When he avoids execution from the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures, thanks to Dumbledore allowing Hermione to use the Time-Turner.

Who He Is: The youngest of the Weasley brothers, Harry's best friend, and devoted Chudley Cannons fan. 

Why Is He So Lucky? Five older brothers in a humble family has its downsides, but Ron is lucky to come from a loving and healthy family. He gets to be best friends with Harry and go on adventures with him, without having the burden of being the Chosen One. He qualifies to join the Quidditch team, and to everyone’s surprise - including his own - Ron is made a prefect in his fifth year. He survives the Battle of Hogwarts, as well as helps Harry and Hermione destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes. As an adult, he winds up marrying and having a family with the talented and brilliant Hermione.  

Luckiest Moment: When their dad stops the twins from tricking their baby brother Ron into participating in an unbreakable curse.

Who She Is: The youngest of the Weasley siblings, member of Dumbledore’s Army, talented Quidditch player, and, later on, Harry’s wife.  

Why Is She So Lucky? The baby sister of the Weasley family, Ginny is one of the luckiest Harry Potter characters because she survives her encounter with Voldemort and the Chamber of Secrets during her first year at Hogwarts. In her fourth year, she qualifies to join the Hogwarts Quidditch team like her brothers Ron and Charlie. And she gets to marry the guy she had a crush on for years, Harry, and have three kids with him - whose names make fans everywhere swoon. 

Luckiest Moment: When Harry saves her life in the Chamber of Secrets.

Who He Is: It may seem obvious and/or redundant, but objectively, Harry is one incredibly lucky wizard. 

Why Is He So Lucky? The Boy Who Lived may have experienced a lot of adversity and loss, but he also leads a full, rich, and adventurous life. Here are some but certainly not all of the times Harry managed solely because of luck: surviving Voldemort’s curse, being raised by Muggles (instead of being raised in the magical world, where he would have wound up spoiled and full of himself like Malfoy), meeting the Weasleys, befriending Hermione, becoming Seeker, surviving his encounter with the Whomping Willow, getting a Cloak of Invisibility and the Marauder’s Map, evading Gilderoy Lockhart’s attempt to obliviate his memory, escaping giant spiders in the Forbidden Forest, finding the Room of Requirement, eluding Aragog and the giant spiders, obtaining Felix Felicis, surviving the Triwizard Tournament, and destroying Horcruxes.

Luckiest Moment: Getting to marry the love of his life while keeping his best friend. 

All is well.

Who He Is: The eldest of the Weasley siblings. 

Why Is He So Lucky? After Bill graduates from Hogwarts, he pursues a career working as a Curse-Breaker for Gringotts Wizarding Bank. It is while working with Gringotts he meets his wife-to-be, the lovely Fleur Delacour. As if that isn’t lucky enough, Bill also survives an ordeal at the paws of the werewolf Fenrir Greyback during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. He bears a scar on his face for life after that, but luckily shows no signs of werewolf symptoms.  

Luckiest Moment: Living through an assault by Fenrir Greyback.

Who She Is: The mother of Draco Malfoy, wife of Lucius, and only sister of Bellatrix Lestrange. 

Why Is She So Lucky? Narcissa is vain, cruel, a supporter of the Dark Arts, and an enabler of her husband’s vicious behavior. This makes all she gets away with in the Harry Potter movies that much more lucky. She convinces Severus Snape to conduct an Unbreakable Vow protecting her son, a feat her sister Bellatrix didn’t think he’d ever do. She also gets away with telling a convincing lie to Voldemort, who's a master of Occlumency and could almost always tell when someone was lying to him. As a result, she is able to save her son’s life (and Harry’s) as a result. Her entire immediate family survives the Battle of Hogwarts and are forgiven for their former wrongdoings after Voldemort is defeated. 

Luckiest Moment: When she tells Lord Voldemort that Harry has perished, and he believes her.
