Vote up the most painful price differences for everyday items from 2000 to 2025.

There's no lack of conversation about the price of groceries in 2025, especially staples like eggs. Fruits (did you hear about the $19 strawberry?!?!), vegetables, meat, and dairy are all priced higher than they've been in years past. While this isn't entirely out of the norm, the contrast between what people were spending on everyday items in 2025 vs. 2000 is striking.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics keeps track of prices of a lot of goods people purchase and consume daily. The average price data from the Consumer Price Index is especially helpful when trying to figure how just how much more things cost from one period to another. In addition to being helpful, the information is also shocking, infuriating, and even a bit demoralizing.

The difference between the price of so many foods in 2000 has doubled, if not tripled, as of 2025. The numbers below reflect the cost in March 2000 vs. January or February 2025, depending on available data. Vote up the items you're hit you the hardest in your wallet.
