In 2006, Disney was churning out more popular tween series than your average AIM-addicted 14-year-old could keep up with. The success of That’s So Raven and Hannah Montana, which inadvertently gifted us with some of the most controversial former Disney stars, opened up the doors for what would be one of the network's most successful films of all time. High School Musical premiered on January 20, 2006, and broke records. It remains the only Disney Channel Original Movie to have a theatrical release. So, where is the cast of High School Musical now?

High School Musical defined a generation, from the best-selling album filled with teen anthems to some of the worst (and most copied) fashion of the early '00s. Sharpay may be the only person on the planet who can pull off metallic fabrics, feathers, and statement hats all in the same outfit. High School Musical also made way for the Disney nude picture scandal of the decade and Zac Efron's 12-pack abs.

It's been 11 years since our faves danced through the hallways of East High and threw balls around with the Wildcats, so what happened to the High School Musical actors? These stars were just starting to get their head in the game - here's what they're up to now!

    Zac Efron

This teenage dreamboat was a series regular on the WB series Summerland, which was canceled in July of 2005. That same year, he landed the role of Troy Bolton in a low-budget made-for-TV Disney Film called High School Musical. Despite the fact that the songs in the film became anthems for high school-aged girls everywhere, Efron didn't actually sing a single note until High School Musical 2. The films also led to his romantic involvement with co-star Vanessa Hudgens.

Efron still has his good looks and a few film successes under his belt. He's starred in box office hits like 17 Again, Neighbors and Nicholas Sparks' The Lucky One. He won an MTV Movie Award in 2014 and had a brief scandal when a condom fell out of his pocket on the red carpet. He also crushed our teenage dreams when he broke up with Vanessa Hudgens in 2010. Efron nabbed a role in James Franco's Tommy Wiseau biopic The Disaster Artist, and starred alongside Hugh Jackman in the December 2017 flick, The Greatest Showman.

  • Ashley Tisdale

This New Jersey native was one of the oldest stars of High School Musical at the ripe age of 21 (yup, she could legally drink in the halls of East High). Tisdale's portrayal of Sharpay Evans was iconic, but she didn't always play an anti-hero. Tisdale also starred as the hard-working girl-next-door Maddie Fitzpatrick on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

Since graduating East High, Tisdale has kept the Disney Channel pretty close and has had a massively rich career in voice acting. She voiced Candace Flynn in the animated hit Phineas and Ferb and Apple in Ginger Snaps, among others. She also nabbed her own HSM spin-off Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. Tisdale isn't just successful in film and TV, she's also lucky in love. She married Christopher French, the lead singer of rock band Annie Automatic, and the couple regularly releases videos of themselves singing covers of songs – adorable.

  • Lucas Grabeel

Lucas Grabeel was 22 years old when he nabbed the role of Sharpay's fraternal twin brother and sidekick Ryan Evans, but High School Musical wasn't his first foray into made-for-TV movies. Grabeel got his start in another beloved Disney film franchise - Halloweentown High. He even starred in Return to Halloweentown between filming High School Musical films.

Much like his on-screen twin sister, Lucas Grabeel ventured into voice acting. He voiced Gustav in Dragons: Race to the Edge, Jiku in Elena of Avalor and the title character in Pinky Malinky.  Despite his success in voice acting, Grabeel hasn't stayed away from traditional on-screen roles. He won three Teen Choice Awards for his portrayal of Toby Kennish in the ABC hit drama Switched At Birth. Grabeel also launched 14341 Productions where he writes, directs, and acts in various shorts.

Corbin Bleu was a wide-eyed teenage actor whose name was supremely reminiscent of French cuisine and whose dancing skills were unmatched. Despite his young age, this actor was destined for fame. In fact, he starred in Nabisco TV commercials when he was just two year years old and signed on with Ford Modeling Agency when he was only four. By the time he landed the role of Chad Danforth in High School Musical (Efron's on-screen bestie), he had already nabbed a number of roles in made-for-TV movies like Catch That Kid and Galaxy Quest.

While Corbin Bleu hasn't had a blockbuster hit like Zac Efron, he's still wildly successful. Bleu moved right from High School Musical to Broadway where he performed in In the Heights and Godspell. From there, he became a soap opera star on One Life to Live (which is essentially only a small jump from starring in a Disney TV movie). He's stayed busy, participating in Season 17 of Dancing with the Stars and starring in shows like The Fosters, Chicago Med and Castle. Bleu is also a married man – he tied the knot with Sasha Clements in 2016.

  • Monique Coleman

Monique Coleman was a fresh-faced 25-year-old when she filmed High School Musical. Though most of us will forever remember her as the head of the Science Club and captain of the Scholastic Decathlon Team at East High, her role as Taylor McKessie wasn't her first for the Disney channel. She had a minor role as Mary-Margaret on The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody, but she was best known from her work on the hit FOX drama Boston Public.

Though Coleman continues to work in acting with roles in TV shows like Here We Go Again and The Fourth Door, the 37-year-old actress took a break from the spotlight to focus on doing good. Coleman is the first ever UN Youth Champion and created Gimme Mo', a safe space online where teens can talk about the real issues they face like bullying and homelessness.

  • Kaycee Stroh

Kaycee Stroh was an unknown actress when she played Martha Cox in High School Musical. In fact, the Salt Lake City native had only ever acted once before. She played an unnamed dancer in a 2004 musical called Ammon & King Lamoni. Martha Cox was a minor character, but it's hard to deny we weren't inspired by this East High Decathlon teammate's passion for hip hop dancing.

After graduating from East High, Stroh had a cameo in two episodes of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and one episode of The League. In 2011, she produced and starred in the Kickstarter-backed web series Shapetown, USA, then quit acting all together. Instead, she launched her own video production company. Despite the fact that she no longer works as an actress, if Stroh never took a chance on High School Musical, she wouldn't have met her husband. She met Ben Higgins while filming HSM 3 in Utah and the couple wed in 2009.
