Vote up the anime with the most exaggerated take on sports.

Some sports anime feature a fairly realistic take on real sports. You can learn a lot about volleyball from watching Haikyuu!!, and Run with the Wind will teach you plenty about relay running. But there are also some unrealistic sports anime out there. And some of them easily qualify as the weirdest sports anime ever.

Many of these shows feature fictional sports, like Ben-To which is all about fighting over half-priced convenience store food, and Girls und Panzer, which involves showdowns with World War II tanks. But there are also anime like Kuroko's Basketball that involve real sports - and some wacky, unrealistic powers and imagery. Whether real or fake, these sports anime are sure to get your heart pumping.

Though technically about football - soccer for Americans - Blue Lock is more about an extreme training method than anything else. The Japan Football Union has been losing left and right, so they came up with a risky and controversial plan called Blue Lock. This plan takes 300 of the best strikers in the country and pits them against each other until the best one is found. The winner gets to join the national team, while the rest have to give up the sport forever.

If you're starting to feel like sports anime is a little too friendly, this ruthless approach might be right up your alley.

  • Kuroko's Basketball

The sport at the center of Kuroko's Basketball might technically exist, but you're never going to see a real basketball game that looks anything like it. The characters have powers that far exceed the typical abilities of a basketball player. There's a character who can see the future, a character who never misses a shot no matter what, and a character who can copy other people's moves with such precision that he may as well have a Sharingan.

If you're a fan of shonen anime where everybody has super powers, this might be the sports anime for you.

  • Keijo!!!!!!!!

Keijo!!!!!!!! is a hilarious example you get when you cross sports anime with ecchi. Keijo is a game that involves knocking your opponent off of a floating island called the “Land” using only your breasts or your butt.

This is taken totally seriously - the girls spend hours training their cores and their glutes to be successful. One girl even gives up a career in Judo in favor of Keijo. This would already be more than enough to get this series on the list, but things get even weirder. Some Keijo practitioners have wild abilities - one example is Mio's Breast Hypnosis, which is exactly what it sounds like in the most literal sense possible.

  • SK8 the Infinity

SK8 the Infinity isn't just about skateboarding - it's about an underground network of skateboarding competitions that are explicitly illegal because of how dangerous they are. Oh, and they're run by an incredibly flamboyant and dangerous man who dresses up like a matador and is secretly a politician.

Whether you watch for the hot dudes or the sick skateboard moves, you're going to have a good time.

    Air Gear

    Air Gear

In the future, inline skates called Air Trecks allow the user to “fly” through a series of propulsion mechanisms. For safety reasons, they have built-in speed limiters. A group called the Storm Riders is known for tampering with those limiters to go as fast as humanly possible. They form teams and wager their AT parts or their team emblems in intense, high-speed competitions.

Itsuki Minami, a middle schooler who is constantly getting into fights, finally finds a purpose in life when he gets sucked into this world.

  • The Prince of Tennis

First debuting in 2001, The Prince of Tennis is an earlier example of the sports anime genre. It follows the development of Ryoma Echizen, a middle school prodigy who ends up playing tennis with high schoolers.

The premise is simple, but what makes it really weird is the fact that the characters have wild, physically impossible moves. There's literally a guy who can create black holes with his tennis racket. If you're looking for realism, you will not find it here.
